Last weekend I had a fun (but a little wet!) day with a great couple in DC. We spent most of the time in the Georgetown area. Looking forward to your wedding in August. Hopefully the weather in Maryland will be a little better.

The "Feel"

When I am asked to create images of a wedding there is a tension between what I "feel" and what may be the reality captured on the camera. I have stated many times that the new cameras are TOO sharp. Just as a great Alfred Hichcock movie, you don't have to show everything to convey a powerful idea.

Sure photojournalism can have power in its images but it is a sometimes infrequent process. I am asked to create thoughtful and artistic images at each wedding. The only way that I can do this is to "feel" what the event means to both the bride and groom. The "feel" is where I begin my wedding photography. The "feel" that I look for at a weddin...

A few weeks back Brooke & Rick were married at the Vinoy in St. Petersburg. It is a beautiful hotel which I would suggest you make a time to visit. Great people watching on the veranda. The wedding went like clockwork and as you can see the was both beautiful and fun.

It is a funny thing with the engagement sessions. At first the couples look a little concerned about having a photographer around but within 15 to 20 minutes they forget about me and enjoy being themselves.

You can tell that Kara & Marlon enjoy each others company. There is a self confidence the two of the have that I was found refreshing. I am looking forward to their wedding in December.

Arlington National Cemetery

While I was in DC for the engagement session I had a chance to revisit Arlington National Cemetary. I had not been there since I was a little kid. Such a peaceful place and with all of the gravesites it seems to be an almost mind numbing experience of Americans who have paid with their life for our freedoms.

We did this engagement session a few weeks ago. Their wedding is in Ohio this August.

I did a different type of show for this engagement session. The movie part is done with an 8mm camera, real "old school". I love the look of old movies and thought it added a unique touch. Click on the picture below to watch.
